Check out an example of a PSA, Interview, and Talk Show from last year's class.
- The class will be split up into five groups.
- Each group will be assigned a different project relating to Speak.
- The five assignments are: a Public Service Announcement, a commercial advertising a product from the novel (i.e. stain remover, crumb cleaner), a skit acting out a scene from the novel, an interview with the author or character, and a radio show where you discuss questions sent by classmates relating to the novel.
- There are different requirements for each project, but each group member should be involved in the process, regardless of assignment.
Public Service Announcement Requirements:
- Create a public service announcement about one topic found in the novel.
- Your public service announcement should be 30, 45, or 60 seconds long.
Commercial Requirements:
- Create a commercial based on a product that is applicable to a character or scenario from the novel.
- This must be a real product.
- Your commercial can be humorous or serious.
- Your commercial should be 30, 45, or 60 seconds long.
Skit Requirements:
- Recreate a scene from the novel in the form of a radio skit.
- You must have two talents. The other two members of the group will be working the sound board and recording the skit.
- You may create your own sound effects or find them on the internet.
- Your skit should be five to ten minutes long.
Interview Requirements:
- Create an interview with either a character from the text or Laurie Halse Anderson, the author.
- You need a minimum of six questions to ask your interviewee.
- Try to get into the character's, or author's, mindset as much as possible, so your responses are as realistic as possible.
- Your interview should be at least five minutes in length.
Radio Show Requirements:
- You are the hosts of a radio show that discusses the books we are reading in class.
- Every group member doesn't have to speak during the show. Some of the group members can take on pre-production and post-production responsibilities.
- Set up a Poll Everywhere page and text or tweet questions which you will be answering on the show.
- During your show, be sure to discuss at least four questions related to the novel and answer them to the fullest of your abilities.
- There is no maximum time limit, but try to keep your show between seven and ten minutes in length.
- Once you have uploaded it, embed the player to the class page.
